FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE CERF-VOLANT, DIEPPE, FRANCE
The first time visitor to the biennial international kite festival, held on the seafront in Dieppe, couldn't fail to be impressed by the diversity of kites, colours and costumes. Around 40 countries were represented, with the UK being the guest of honour in September 2012.
The first day of kite flying was preceeded by a street procession of participants including a band of Highland pipers and Morris dancers.
During the event there were kite workshops, displays of artistic kites, sports kite flying, historical kites, aerial photography, a circus, night flying and stage performances. Since it's inception over 30 years ago the success of this festival can be seen in the wide diversity of kites from so many different countries being flown by those who have created them.
